In one of Ghana’s most significant economic announcements, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng (popularly known as A-Plus), officially launched the $1.5 billion Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone (GCSEZ) on October 21, 2025, in Accra. President John Dramani Mahama, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, and international investors attended the unveiling at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.

The ambitious project, spanning 21,000 acres, is expected to create 60,000 direct and indirect jobs and represents a bold reimagining of sustainable development. MP Asare Obeng stated: “What we’re building in Gomoa Central isn’t just another industrial park. This is a complete ecosystem that proves sustainability and profitability can thrive together. We’re creating a model that Africa has never seen before.”

The GCSEZ integrates five interconnected pillars: a 24-hour business district designed to support 10,000 businesses by 2032, an eco-recreational park targeting one million visitors annually by 2030, organic and sustainable farming zones covering 2,100 acres, an integrated eco-industrial hub housing 200 factories, and a renewable energy-powered crypto mining facility generating over $100 million annually.

Perhaps most intriguingly, the zone will operate as a pioneering platform for AfCFTA digital currency trade, with blockchain-based systems designed to facilitate transactions across 54 African countries. The Gomoa Central Development Trust has secured long-term industrial leases on fully documented land, eliminating legal uncertainties that have plagued similar developments elsewhere.

MP Asare Obeng emphasized the strategic advantages: “Our renewable energy infrastructure will provide some of the lowest operational costs in the region. Our location gives us access to multiple ports and direct links to the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor. And our commitment to sustainability means we’re building something that will benefit generations to come.”

The project includes affordable housing for workers within minutes of industrial operations and youth empowerment programs to train one million coders to support the digital infrastructure. This initiative forms part of the government’s 24-Hour Economy Agenda and marks a major milestone in Ghana’s quest for large-scale industrialization and regional trade integration.
