Detty December is Ghana’s month-long cultural celebration — a three-week stretch when Accra transforms into the cultural capital of Africa. The diaspora comes home. The clubs stay open until dawn. The beach parties stretch from sunset to sunrise. And two of the biggest music festivals on the continent light up the city skyline.
This 8-day journey is built for exactly that moment. We arrive the day after Christmas, ease into the city’s pace, spend a full day and night at AfroFuture Festival, take one heritage day to stand where your ancestors stood, and count down to 2027 under fireworks. Then a gratitude morning, a rooftop farewell brunch, and a final evening that belongs to you.
What makes this tour different: we built it for people who want Ghana at its most electric but also at its most human. The itinerary respects hangover mornings. It protects emotional capacity. It leaves room for the unplanned — the rooftop you wandered into at 2 AM, the stranger who became a friend, the song that made you cry. Fun. Cultural. Modern. Stress-free. Every day is paced around how you actually feel, not how many stamps we can put in your passport.
You’ll dance at AfroFuture under Accra’s skyline. Stand at the Door of No Return in Cape Coast and honor your ancestors. Ring in New Year’s Eve at a beach or rooftop with other people feeling exactly what you’re feeling. Feast at Buka Restaurant. Brunch at Polo Beach Club. Shop Osu Oxford Street. Walk Makola Market with a local guide. And leave with hundreds of memories.

Detty December 2026 — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
December 26, 2026 – January 2, 2027 (8 days / 7 nights). You'll arrive the day after Christmas and depart the second day of the new year.
7 nights hotel (single occupancy), airport transfers, air-conditioned transport with dedicated driver/guide, daily breakfast, one curated meal per day, bottled water, all tour entries and activities listed, AfroFuture Festival General Admission tickets (2 days), a premium NYE party ticket at Polo Beach Club or equivalent, Cape Coast Castle and Assin Manso naming ceremony, W.E.B. Du Bois Centre, Makola Market guided browse, NYE gratitude brunch, welcome and farewell dinners at rooftop venues, and 24-hour MBG ground support.
No. The package covers land arrangements only. Detty December is Ghana's peak travel season — book flights by August 2026 at the latest. Fares surge 40-80% after September. We can recommend flight routes.
AfroFuture (formerly Afrochella) is Ghana's flagship Afrobeats music and culture festival. Past headliners include Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, Rema, Asake, and Black Sherif. It's held at El Wak Stadium in Accra over two nights (expected Dec 27-28, 2026). Your tour includes General Admission tickets for both nights. The festival combines live music, fashion showcases, art installations, and food vendors.
Yes. We offer VIP upgrades at additional cost (approximately $300-$500 per person depending on the festival's 2026 pricing, announced in October 2026). VIP includes premium viewing areas, dedicated bars, expedited entry, and hospitality lounges. Let us know at booking and we'll handle the upgrade.
We include entry to a premium NYE party at a venue like Polo Beach Club on Labadi Beach — Accra's most iconic end-of-year setting. Expect a 10 PM to 3 AM party with international DJs, bottle service areas, fireworks at midnight, and a crowd that combines Ghanaian celebrities, diaspora returnees, and international visitors. The energy is unmatched.
21 meals: 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 7 dinners. Some nights (AfroFuture evenings and NYE) have lighter early dinners at the hotel so you can fully enjoy the festivities. Additional meals, alcoholic drinks, and nightlife food are at guest expense.
Well-rated properties in Accra and Lemon Beach Resort in Cape Coast / Elmina (1 night). All rooms are single occupancy, modern, air-conditioned, with en-suite bathrooms, hot water, and reliable Wi-Fi.
We designed this tour specifically for Detty December pacing. No activities before 9 AM. Two slow mornings after AfroFuture nights. A one-day heritage visit (not two castle days stacked back-to-back). Free afternoons on festival and post-festival days. A dedicated Gratitude Morning on New Year's Day. The schedule respects the fact that you're partying — we just make sure you can still stand upright on Day 8.
This tour is festival-first, heritage-curated. We chose to include Cape Coast Castle (the more emotionally central heritage site) and Assin Manso (naming ceremony) in a single day instead of stacking Cape Coast, Kakum, and Elmina across three days. That format belongs on our August summer tour. For Detty December, we protect your energy for AfroFuture and NYE. We can arrange Kakum or Elmina as optional day-tour add-ons before or after the main itinerary if you're extending your stay.
Yes. Ghana is one of Africa's safest, most welcoming destinations. Security at major events (AfroFuture, NYE parties) is high. Our team provides 24-hour local support, vetted drivers for late-night returns, and secure accommodation throughout. We never let guests find their own way home after parties — the driver is always on standby.
Most travellers require a visa. We'll send a visa assistance guide after booking with detailed steps for applying via e-visa or your nearest Ghanaian Embassy. African Union passport holders enjoy visa-free entry. Apply by October 2026 — embassy processing can be slower during peak December season.
Festival outfits (African-inspired attire encouraged — this is a style crowd), comfortable shoes for long festival nights, swimwear for beach days, one formal outfit for the farewell dinner, sunscreen and insect repellent, a portable phone charger, a light jacket for harmattan evenings (December nights can cool to 22°C), and cash for tips and market shopping. We send a full packing guide on booking.
Light to moderate. Most days are city-based with short drives. The heritage day involves walking at Cape Coast Castle (moderate, some stairs). The festival nights and NYE involve being on your feet for 6+ hours — pace yourself. We build in rest windows every afternoon.
Yes. MBG can arrange additional hotel nights, day tours to Kumasi, Aburi Gardens, or Kakum National Park, or onward regional travel. If you want a January 3 AfroFuture x PVO after-party add-on or a Volta Region extension, mention it during booking.
Click "Book Now," complete the form, and we'll send an invoice with payment link. A 30% deposit secures your spot; balance is due 45 days before departure (November 17, 2026). Early Bird pricing of $3,750 applies to bookings received before August 15, 2026.
Cancellations up to 90 days before the tour (before September 27, 2026) are refundable minus a $200 admin fee. Cancellations between 60-90 days receive a 50% refund. Cancellations within 60 days are non-refundable due to pre-booked hotels, festival tickets, and NYE party entries, which are non-refundable on our side. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Adults 21+ who want Ghana at its most vibrant end-of-year moment. Ideal for the African diaspora returning home, festival travellers, and anyone looking to combine heritage, culture, and high-energy celebration.
