The Matriarch’s Verse Experience 2025
is one of Ghana’s most powerful celebrations of poetry, performance, and civic storytelling. Curated by the acclaimed poet and cultural activist Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, this year’s edition runs from November 26 to December 7, 2025, under the theme “The Gospel According to Adulting”.
Far more than a poetry event, it’s a multidisciplinary journey blending spoken word, music, dance, visual storytelling, culinary rituals, and cultural performance. The flagship showcase—“This Is Not a Forum”—takes place on Saturday, November 29 at 7:00 PM at the British Council Ghana in Accra. It’s designed to immerse audiences in the raw, reflective realities of adulthood, with performances that challenge, heal, and inspire.
Produced by Breathing Art Studio and supported by partners like BellAfricana UK, Aguma Teas & Herbs, and the British Council, the experience spans multiple venues including the National Theatre, North Ridge Café, and Tree House.
