Celebrating 100 Years of Highlife Music
Ghana is gearing up for a monumental celebration: 100 Years of Highlife Music, honoring a century of rhythm, storytelling, and cultural pride. This year-long tribute kicks off in November 2025 and runs through September 2026, featuring a dynamic lineup of concerts, exhibitions, academic forums, and community events that trace the genre’s evolution and global influence.
One standout event is the “Celebrating 100 Years of Highlife” Conference & Concert, scheduled for December 6, 2025, in Kumasi. Organized by December Gh, it includes a daytime conference exploring Highlife’s legacy and an evening concert showcasing Ghana’s finest musicians.
Another highlight is AKƆMCERT 3.0, hosted by Kwame Brenya and the Akɔm Band at the Efua T. Sutherland Drama Studio in Legon on November 11, 2025. Themed “Highlife Is Alive,” this musical and poetry event promises a nostalgic yet vibrant celebration of Ghana’s most iconic sound.
