On October 4, 2025, Chinese firm Greenhouse International Development Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $300 million “Bright International Amusement Park” near Afienya in the Greater Accra Region, with President John Dramani Mahama performing the sod-cutting ceremony. This landmark tourism and entertainment infrastructure project, sitting on 500 acres of land, is expected to take three years to complete and will be powered by the Bui Power Authority.

The world-class facility will feature a five-star leisure resort hotel with 160 rooms and 20 independent presidential villas, a 5,000-capacity international conference and exhibition center, a 160,000-square-meter water park, 500 high-end golf villas, an artificial beach, waterfront restaurants, and sightseeing yachts. The project is designed to cater to Ghana’s growing middle class and tourists seeking family-friendly leisure options, filling a critical gap in the market.

According to Mr. Tang Hong, President of the Chinese Association and Ghana-China Chamber of Commerce, the Bright International Industrial Zone and Amusement Park project is expected to create 30,000 direct jobs within the next three years, with projections to surpass 200,000 jobs within 5 to 10 years as more companies establish operations within the zone.

President Mahama announced that the park will become the epicenter of his government’s 24-hour economy policy, which aims to create a round-the-clock system of production, trade, and service delivery. He noted that the park’s structure—combining industrial production, retail, hospitality, and entertainment—offers the perfect ecosystem for a vibrant, sustainable 24-hour economy.

Greenhouse International Development Group’s Broader Impact in Ghana:

Since establishing operations in Ghana in 2011, the Greenhouse Group has invested close to $700 million in Ghana, creating an undeniable mark on the country’s industrial and social landscape. The Bright International Industrial Park currently hosts 67-70 operating enterprises and has created over 10,000 direct jobs, with more than 50 percent of employees being women, effectively implementing Ghana’s Affirmative Action Act.

The group has also opened eight Afri Malls across Ghana, selling 100 percent made-in-Ghana products including mattresses, furniture, refrigerators, household appliances, and TV sets at affordable prices. President Mahama cited examples such as refrigerators selling for GH₵1,200 and freezers for GH₵2,200, making household items accessible to young Ghanaians starting their lives.

Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, stated that the project is “a testament to the foresight and enduring confidence that the Greenhouse Group has placed in Ghana under the distinguished leadership of President Mahama,” describing it as transformative for Ghana’s tourism, manufacturing, and job creation sectors.
